If you intend to have a good time playing paintball it really is really important that you wear the appropriate clothes.Going out to play paintball with the appropriate clothes will ensure a good time as well as minimize your odds of getting hurt. A lot of folks think that you have to wear gear and clothing specifically for paintball and that’s just not true.

Every now and then I’ll see someone out there playing in shorts and a t-shirt and that’s just not enough protection to be frank. There will also be folks that get out of hand and look like they just came out of their local paintball gear shop. You can spend a small fortune on paintball clothes like pants and a jersey but at the end of the day it won’t improve the way you play. When deciding what to wear it is important to wear something you’ll be comfortable in, wear something that’s flexible and cover as much skin as possible.

The most important thing when considering what to wear when playing paintball is to cover yourself from head to toe. If you are wearing casual clothes try not to wear anything too light because the paint could stain it permanently. If wearing your own gear, wear clothes that are preferably thick, wear clothes that cover your arms and legs and finally wear something that is loose enough to allow you to be flexible.

What you have to realize about paintball is that you get dirty from playing because you’ll often end up  on the ground, on your knees and crawling on your elbows so wear appropriate clothing. When it comes to your clothes just keep it simple… choose clothes that are comfortable and that cover as much of you as possible.

I get a lot of questions about camouflage and all I have to say is that paintball isn’t real combat so camo may be overkill. A lot of folks worry about whether or not playing paintball will hurt and paintballs can and will bruise and welt your skin so again… wear clothes that are a little thicker (like a sweatshirt) that cover your arms and legs. A really savvy paintballer will wear something to cover his neck or just apply sunscreen to protect the back of his neck from sun burn.

Probably the most important piece of gear you will wear out to the paintball field is a paintball mask. A paintball mask will protect your face, your ears and your eyes. Under no circumstances should you play paintball without a minimum of goggles but I strongly recommend you wear a paintball mask. The biggest chance you have for getting seriously injured on the paintball field is by not protecting your eyes.

At the end of the day you want to be comfortable in your clothing and you want to cover your arms and legs if at all possible. Something I haven’t covered yet is wearing gloves to protect your hands as they can also be susceptible. Most paintball guns fire paintballs at a velocity of 250-300 feet per second so it really is important to wear clothing that is thick enough to absorb that. If you plan on playing paintball, wear clothes that are functional and follow the advice in this article and you should be ok.
